The story in the post "Iron Man and me" is a good example of how the Creative Commons enables the re-purposing of content. An average photograph became part of a feature film because it was released under a Creative Commons license.
This is the idea that we're working toward with the creation of open discipleship tools. What if Bible school and seminary students around the world made their class notes and papers available under a Creative Commons license? If the papers and resources were collected on a wiki, they could form the basis for any number of derivative works. They could be modified and included in a Bible dictionary, commentary, Bible school curriculum or other discipleship resource and translated into any language for use all over the world.
We are building Door43 (http://door43.org) to be an on-line archive and workbench for free & open discipleship tools, available to be re-used and re-purposed for any ministry need. The design of the site is still being finalized but we plan to be on-line and ready for use soon.
