What are "discipleship tools"?

We are using the term "discipleship tools" to refer to anything that helps a believer grow in faith into a disciple of Jesus Christ. Discipleship tools can be thought of as resources (e.g. studies, teaching courses, etc.) and technology systems (e.g. User-generated content creation frameworks, New Media content delivery systems, etc.) that enable the creation of the resources and provide the means to deliver them to users in the way they prefer.

Practically, discipleship tools could include:

  • The Bible (in the language of the believer) – Access to the Word of God in the heart language, where it penetrates past the surface to the changing of one's worldview, is essential for discipleship.
  • Bible stories in audio (or video) format – Since the vast majority of people everywhere in the world prefer to learn new information through non-print means, storytelling and Orality resources are important discipleship tools
  • Bible School courses – From introductory courses to detailed studies of key passages and concepts, a Bible School curriculum is a key tool for followers of Jesus everywhere.
  • Bible study resources – Commentaries and exegetical helps are easily taken for granted but they are an important tool for the serious student of the Word - and most languages do not yet have any such tools.
  • etc. – These are some of the discipleship tools we are focusing on (see the Projects page) but there are many others waiting to be created.

What's your vision for creating discipleship tools with and for the global church? Do you have an idea for a discipleship tool or want to join our worldwide team in building the ones we're working on? If so, here's how to get started – we would love to help you accomplish the vision God has given you.
